Le point あるいは présente une alternative ou des options (« A ou B », « soit… soit… »). De registre plutôt soutenu/écrit, il s'emploie avec des verbes, des adjectifs et des noms.

Exemples

• 今日は映画を見るあるいはショッピングをする予定です。

  きょうはえいがをみるあるいはショッピングをするよていです。

  Aujourd'hui, je compte soit aller au cinéma, soit faire du shopping.

• 彼女は英語あるいはドイツ語で話すことができます。
